Multiple People Shot at Howe Community Park — Unauthorized Event Descends into Chaos
On Saturday evening, an unauthorized gathering of a large crowd at the Howe Park area in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento ended in a shooting when between 20 and 25 shots were discharged as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were working to breaking up the gathering.
How Events Unfolded
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office was notified regarding subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at Howe Park. An additional caller indicated a reported fight and individuals fleeing the scene.
An airship was sent to the area and swept the area but could not find the reported fight.
Despite this, multiple hundreds of people had gathered at the park for what law enforcement classified as an unapproved assembly. Deputies formed a perimeter around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave via loudspeaker announcements.
While law enforcement cleared the gathering, an estimated 20 to 25 rounds were fired — sending hundreds of people running in a panic.
Those Injured
Four gunshot victims — three men website and one woman, each in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one victim had moderate injuries, and one suffered injuries classified as minor. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted with on-scene medical triage here in the field.
The Investigation Scene
The shooting read more was centered on the Cottage Way corridor side of the park close to the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block. The nearby Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Additional shell casings were recovered from Cottage Way, with bullet holes found in the iron fence near the Home Depot — indicating a shooter who fired southward from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot. Detectives and CSI personnel combed the scene for evidence well into the evening.
What We Know About Suspects
According to scanner audio, it was confirmed that a vehicle connected to the shooting — a Kia — was more info detained in the Solano County area with four suspects Home Depot Sacramento shooting detained. SCSO deputies were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and transport them back to Sacramento County. Surveillance footage confirmed two separate shooters.
